and chevy chase say it's about time. residents in this area have called this stretch of roadway "the green mile. wisconsin avenue between norwood drive and cumberland avenue full of trees. five of them are coming down starting today. >> i look over there all the time but i will not go over there because it looks dangerous. >> felicia works in the area and chooses to walk across the street from barack and elm trees. she and many others say they are potential safety hazard. -- walk across the street from rotting entries. >> after a storm there was a power line hang in front of me and i almost wanted to because the tree was in the way. >> maryland state highway administration reviewed all the trees in the area and decided just the five need to be removed. they say the elm trees were damaged by a vehicle crashes or severe weather.

adding to the urgency of all of this, drivers have hit large prances draping over the road. in three hours, and 9:00 this morning, is when the crews will begin the tree removal process. they will wrap up just before 3:00 this afternoon. the same schedule will be in effect on thursday and friday. one northbound lane of wisconsin avenue could remain closed for drivers through the removal process. reporting live in chevy chase, jummy olabanji. >> the d.c. area traditionally is one of the worst for drivers. >> now aaa believes recent changes could pull the region off the top 10 list of worst commutes. brianne carter joins us live from springfield this morning to explain how. that will how >> it's always good to hear the predictions related to the traffic in virginia and washington. aaa says the it's because of two

construction projects. the hot lanes on 95 and the 495 express lanes are the reason. they will allow people to be able to travel from stafford to springfield and then on to tysons corner at speed which does not happen many mornings with the backups that occur. they say you will be able to do this when all the projects are complete. the 495 express lanes are expected to be completed in a matter of months in december. the 95 hot lanes are expected to be completed sometime iin 2015. many predictions were that this would alleviate traffic congestion. now they are saying this will eliminate us from some of those lists that put us as the worst in the country. no specific estimates on the tolls for the 495 express lanes. those will be dynamic holes

this is "good morning washington," on your side. >> japan could soon ease restrictions on beef imports from the u.s. a panel the experts recommended allowing the imports from cows up to 30 months old from the current 20-month age limit. the imports have been restricted because of fears of mad cow disease. the changes could be made official later this year or early next year. >> a wildfire in the angeles national forest and california is 24% contained. the fire has been staying away from the los angeles suburbs. it could take a week to contain the nearly 4,000 acre blaze because of the terrain. >> a california couple was discriminated against because their son has down syndrome. they were booked to fly on american airlines flight with their 16-year-old son from newark to los angeles.

other underway in northern virginia the hot lines are crossed 95 and the hot lines on i-495. they say when both of these are complete, people will be able to travel in northern virginia on to tyson's corner from stafford at speed, cutting down their commute and making the drive better for thousands. when will this happen? the for 95 lanes should be open in virginia. the hot lines on 95 scheduled to be open in 2015. but they will cost you. they are hov toll lanes so you will not have to pay the toll if you are traveling with three or more people in your car. it could cost as much as $5 or $6 to use the new road. brianne carter, abc 7 news. >> still ahead some restaurants test your one person strategists. >> and from the first lady to a
